Top 22 Interview Questions New Real Estate Agents Should Ask

I am a real estate agent. I started working as a real estate agent in Jan. of 2020. That makes me a newbie however I have been in real estate marketing for about 8 years.

When I was going through my schooling and passing my tests I came up with a list of questions to ask the agencies that I was interviewing. Having been in the real estate realm for 8 years I was surprised how little I knew about how real estate companies work. If you’re looking to get into real estate I have a course that will help you to fill in all the gaps.

When I made my list of questions I could only come up with three. After being an agent for a short time, I have developed a much longer list of questions that I believe you should ask the companies you are interviewing:

  • What is your commission structure?
  • What are your additional fees? (e&o, desk fee, franchise fee, etc)
  • What do you use for CRM and is there a cost to me to use it?
  • What do you use for creating CMA’s? Is there a cost for me to use it?
  • What do you use for transaction management? Is there a cost for me to use it?
  • Do you require your agents to be members of the NAR and/or local the Local Realtor Associations?
  • Do you offer agent websites? If so, is there a cost?
  • Is it OK if I own my own website?
  • Do you have any IDX solution agreements at discounted rates for use on my own website?
  • Do you have a mentorship program or how do you train new agents to ready themselves for the real estate market? Is there a cost associated with that training or the mentorship program?
  • How many offices do you have in the area? Would I have access to use any of them?
  • How much is a desk rental, cubicle rental, office rental? Are any of these obligatory?
  • What marketing material do you offer for me to use when listing a home? Do you have a price sheet for each of the items?
  • Do you have a lead generation and distribution program within the company? If so how does it work?
  • Do you have a way for all the agents to stay in contact with one another?
  • Do you allow teams to work under your umbrella?
  • Who is your top producer and how many transactions do they do per year?
  • What is your average number of transactions per agent?
  • What are the company goals to become the leaders in real estate in the area?
  • What kind of marketing do you do to get people to know more about the agency?
  • Do you have a referral program if I were to refer other agents to the company?
  • Do you have a retirement program? A health insurance program?
